Vannesa Villarreal, stylist intern, is a stew that is made of fashion, art, and film as the main ingredients. At a young age she had begun to show interest in fashion and art. As a little girl, she and her mother would go school shopping, come home and proceed to put on mini fashion shows with her mother acting as a photographer and grandparents as the audience. Upon entering high school, Vannesa felt the need to define her style in a sea of mundane uniforms, so she became infatuated with D.I.Y. fashion. Her first project was handstitching leopard print fabric (ripped from an old hat) onto her Chuck Taylors (this was prior to the release of leopard print Chucks) which took 7 hours and 6 bleeding fingers. Soon after that, everything she owned was either painted, patched, sewn, or collaged over and she had fully developed the desire get into the fashion industry. She soon entered The Illinois Institute of Art in 2003 where she quickly grew fond of the history of fashion; from the art work that inspired major movements to the original psychological purposes of “why” fashion and adornment are so important to us. She adores researching looks and styles from different time periods and subcultures whether it be through old pictures, magazines, digging for books in the back of the library or simply by people watching. Always the one to be constantly inspired and motivated by all around her, the ability to fully enthrall herself into whatever subject matter she may be focused on at that point as well as her absolute love and passion for her trade, sets her apart from everyone else. Vannesa graduated from the Illinois Institute of Art in 2007 and is currently working as an assistant stylist intern with tristinstyling. Needless to say, she’s ready to take on the world.
