INFORMATION: One of Chicago’s original “lifestyle” stores, Findables, is closing its doors at the end of August. Opened in November 1985, owner David James Ginople honed his eye for classy gifts and whimsical decor at both Marshall Fields and Bergdorf Goodman, where he worked as a fashion buyer. Leaving Bergdorf Goodman due to a fervent “love and belief in Chicago,” David has always been an innovative buyer, incorporating vintage merchandise into the Findables’ inventory mix long before the retro-chic look became popular. Findables has consistently enjoyed a reputation as a delightful destination for gift givers of all age groups and prices ranges, ultimately becoming the “the premiere independent Christmas retailer” in Chicago. “Perhaps that’s how I got the name ‘Mr. Christmas’ — or ‘Mr. Scrooge’ depending on who you talk to!?” David said recently.
Customers both old and new are encouraged to stop by Findables and say hello to David and his dachshund, Suzzy, as well as to purchase many of the shop’s favorite finds at 20% to 75% off now through the end of August, including their signature line of tableware and accessories, Mac Kenzie-Childs. Deeper discounts of 50% to 75% off on all Easter, Halloween, and Christmas items are also currently available.
Happily, David’s interest in vintage merchandise inspired his second store, Store B Vintage, featuring a well-edited and pristine collection of vintage and designer clothing, handbags, and home furnishings. David plans to carry many of the bestselling product lines from Findables at Store B Vintage in the near future.
