Hello hello! Aimara here…
I don’t know if you saw all over our Insta feeds & Snapchat that a few months ago we went to Los Angeles and San Francisco with Nordstrom for a style experience with Citizens of Humanity. It was by far one of our greatest experiences as a team and for sure had to share every little detail with you.
We had a blast and got to learn so much about Citizens of Humanity as a whole, and how premium denim is made. So, without further ado, here’s a snippet of our little adventure in the West Coast.
First, we arrived to the Citizen’s showroom in the heart of downtown LA. We were greeted by Alicia Walker who is the Director of Global Communications and by Creative Director Catherine Ryu. They pampered us with this beautiful spread of food and drinks and had breakfast (and mimosas) together while we sat down and talked about the brand and all the steps involved in creating premium denim.
After breakfast, we walked around the beautiful space they carefully design to be their showroom for buyers and… well yes, bloggers. We were so lucky to experience first hand what’s coming to stores for Summer and trust me, you don’t want to miss it. This space also serves as an office for part of the marketing, social media and customer service teams. Isn’t this a dreamy location to go to work to everyday?
After a little while of wondering around this alluring space, Catherine showed us some of their best selling jeans as well as their Summer 2016 collection. We tried on a few before deciding what type of denim we were going to take back home with us… And we took a few! It was too hard to choose. #sorrynotsorry
Then it was time to learn about the process of making premium denim by Citizens of Humanity. One of the most surprising features is that all of their products are made in Los Angeles, so it was pretty cool to see how much work, artisanship and effort actually takes place to create a pair of jeans. So, we went to Huntington Park where the brand’s HQ is located. There we saw the creative process at heart. From designing to sowing, from storage to photoshoots.. We saw it all. And it was mind-blowing to say the least.
Finally we headed to “The Laundry”. This is the place where the magic happens. Where ideas come to life. Where the essence of each design transforms into something tangible. In my humble opinion, this is where Citizen’s sets apart from the rest. It was incredible to see how many hands are involved in the creation of one piece. They use advanced technology, but what makes this brand ‘premium denim creators’ is the unbelievable team of experienced artisans carefully working each piece individually until it looks like it was originally intended to look like.
Stay tuned for Day 2! We flew off to San Francisco for the day for an unforgettable event hosted by Christy Turlington Burns and her non-profit organization “Every Mother Counts”.
Thank you so much for stopping by and have a great day ahead,
