I have to admit, the first thought that comes to mind when I see Y3’s Spring 08 line is “Holy crap I can’t wait till spring”. You usually wouldn’t hear that coming out of my mouth when I’m referring to Yohji Yamamoto. With his notorious somber color palette and oversized chaplin look, he is the last person who makes me think of spring. However, when I caught a glimpse of his Spring 2008 collaboration clothing line with Adidas, I was more than pleasantly surprised.
The collection, is still oh so very Yohji, using predominantly black and greys but with vivid pops of primary colors that are reminiscent of your starter pack of crayons you received in preschool. The silhouette is oversized, though not drastically, just enough to look comfortable without looking sloppy. The look is sporty, effortless and urban as if you could just throw them on, throw on your shoes and head out for the day, or night if you prefer. A few of the fun pieces include loose tube dresses, flowing skirts with the signature Adidas stripes, colorful windbreakers over deconstructed polos and lightweight track pants with vibrant lining.

Yohji brings Adidas to a new level when he takes basic athleticwear pieces and gives them a makeover using unique finishes and fabric technology, while adding fresh colors to the mix. Many of his Y3 pieces are never short of pockets and often have hip slightly “off” proportions. The marriage between Adidas and Yamamoto couldn’t have been any sweeter.
