Ask tristinstyling: How do I tie a winter scarf?

Q:

I was wondering if you could give me some tips on cooler ways to tie a scarf. I’m tired of always doing the slip knot and boring wrap around. I’d also like to know where I can get some for cheap.

A:

It’s getting close to the end of winter and you’re tired of not only wearing the same scarf with every outfit but have found that the same old scarf tricks are boring you.

When it comes to shopping for more winter scarves this late in the season, I suggest hitting thrift stores and clearance racks while retailers are weeding out winter merchandise to make way for Spring.

I put together a video on my top 5 favorite ways to tie a winter scarf (tutorial actually starts 1:35 into the video):

Shibuya Mon Amour, You’ve Gotta Show Me More

A few days ago, Forever 21 had an IMPORTANT CUSTOMER ADVISORY announcing, “Coming Soon! Boutique line designed exclusively for Forever 21.”

Their ad campaign model wore a pretty trendy outfit featuring fishnet stockings, and a short skirt, with a mix of prints and pops of color:

I became more curious and a bit excited when they switched over to the second ad which teased with an,”Inspired by the cool kids of Tokyo and Paris, Shibuya Mon Amour is girly, street, punk, and fashion. Live it, love it, Shibuya Mon Amour”:

Yesterday, after all the anticipation, the website’s home page boasted about the line finally launching:

This is what they had:

1. Leopard Face Tank ($13.80)
2. Owl Cotton Tunic ($17.80)
3. Cloche Cat Tee ($15.80)

Hmm… I was kinda disappointed in this clothing launch.

I mean, sure they’re cute shirts and all but where’s the rest of the collection they called a line? You know, the skirts, funky tights and bright colors… Tokyo and Paris street stuff… I need to see more than just shirts.

I thought I’d be sensitive and give it another day because they might just need a little more time to update the site but there was no additional merchandise today.

So if another cute T-SHIRT is what you’re looking for, Forever 21 has some on their site…

Hanger 18 Twit Picks

When we revamped this blog page, we added the twitter badge to the right column so readers can get live updates on this page and on facebook of hot shopping deals at local boutiques and department stores.

We hit Lincoln Square to see what we kinds of deals we could twitter for all you bargain hunters out there and couldn’t resist blogging about our favorite finds…

Two of our favorite collections for the day, Foxy and Loungefly were found at hanger 18 where the service was great and the buys were too cute to pass up!

Pictured below on the left are two necklaces from Foxy jewelry’s Enchanted Forest collection. On the right, is the Loungefly Sparrow Anchor collection clutch, and wallets in front of the weekend bag which I had to get for myself because it’s the perfect size for my MacBook.

I nabbed the last one so please call the store and see if it’s still have it ordered before heading over there.

Impress Your Clyde with Bonnie’s Look

Rumor has it that Actress Hilary Duff is set to take on the role of Bonnie in a another movie called “The Story Of Bonnie And Clyde”

The film is said to be about Bonnie and Clyde, the famed criminals who captured the attention of the press and readers during public enemy era.

In May 2008, Duff appeared in Allure Magazine’s Bonnie and Clyde inspired photoshoot (pictured left) which shows how much she can resemble a young Faye Dunaway as Bonnie.

Production is set to begin in April.

If this is all true, I’m excited to see what the wardrobe team is going to put together.

The perfect bag for an all white ensemble is the Chloe Bay Bag you see on Reese Witherspoon and Kylie Minogue (pictured left).

A white handbag is also a perfect piece for toning down all those bright and/or printed fabrics that the runway seems to throw at us year after year.

It’s roomy and adorable for $1,635.

A very similar design is available at Shop Suey Boutique for only $52 and is also available in brown and pewter.

Lia Lintern Couture Coats Are Oh So Lovely

Julia Lintern, started her career as a structural aerospace engineer. Being a closet fashion designer, she launched her 1st fashion label, Molly Spinach in 2004.

Upon seeing how her spunky label gradually transformed into more sophisticated and complex designs, the new high-end outerwear label Lia Lintern has been created to debut in Winter of 2009.

Though each piece can seem too high on the price point scale, consider that each coat, made of cashmere and wool, is custom-made to fit based off of your bust, waist, hips, and arm length measurements upon ordering..

Anna K, my favorite piece, is pictured below:
