Closing Sale at Findables

MEDIA ALERT
June 30, 3009
For immediate release

WHAT: Closing Sale at Findables

WHEN: Immediately through end of August

WHERE: Findables, 1643 N. Milwaukee Ave; and Store B Vintage 1472 N. Milwaukee Ave

INFORMATION: One of Chicago’s original “lifestyle” stores, Findables, is closing its doors at the end of August. Opened in November 1985, owner David James Ginople honed his eye for classy gifts and whimsical decor at both Marshall Fields and Bergdorf Goodman, where he worked as a fashion buyer. Leaving Bergdorf Goodman due to a fervent “love and belief in Chicago,” David has always been an innovative buyer, incorporating vintage merchandise into the Findables’ inventory mix long before the retro-chic look became popular. Findables has consistently enjoyed a reputation as a delightful destination for gift givers of all age groups and prices ranges, ultimately becoming the “the premiere independent Christmas retailer” in Chicago. “Perhaps that’s how I got the name ‘Mr. Christmas’ — or ‘Mr. Scrooge’ depending on who you talk to!?” David said recently.

Customers both old and new are encouraged to stop by Findables and say hello to David and his dachshund, Suzzy, as well as to purchase many of the shop’s favorite finds at 20% to 75% off now through the end of August, including their signature line of tableware and accessories, Mac Kenzie-Childs. Deeper discounts of 50% to 75% off on all Easter, Halloween, and Christmas items are also currently available.

Happily, David’s interest in vintage merchandise inspired his second store, Store B Vintage, featuring a well-edited and pristine collection of vintage and designer clothing, handbags, and home furnishings. David plans to carry many of the bestselling product lines from Findables at Store B Vintage in the near future.

Ask tristinstyling: Cellulite Busters

Q:

Summer’s here and I need to get rid of my cellulite! What do I do?

A:

Mojo Spa’s latest newsletter was too good for us to not repost so here you go all! Today’s ask tristinstyling was already answered by Amanda at Mojo Spa.

We’ve cut and pasted the newsletter below:

Finding a solution to cellulite comes from understanding how it forms to begin with. Cellulite has to do with genetics and how your body stores fat and that is why even thin people can have cellulite. Environmental damage, aging and hormones are also thought to play a role in the formation of cellulite. I have used myself as a guinea pig to find a natural solution and over the years there have been lots of experiments. I found that there are 4 areas of focus to succeed:

1. Increase blood circulation
2. Ease fluid retention
3. Lymph Drainage
4. Improve skin’s structure

All these areas need to be a part your daily body regiment in order to have success and have permanent results. I have found that you can easily find short term solutions that last temporarily and can be expensive. If you are willing to put a little effort everyday then you can look great in your swimsuit on a budget friendly routine.

1. Use coffee grounds in the shower:

Coffee has caffeine which helps to tighten skin and stimulate blood circulation. It “wakes up” your skin. If you would like something a little less messier and more intensive, you can use our Get Up & Glow Body Polish.

2. Use grapefruit juice on the affected areas.

Grapefruit is great to help with lymph drainage and tightening the skin. I like to use grapefruit juice with grapefruit essential oil together. I shake the bottle really well and I apply with a large cotton pad. I let it soak in and it will feel a little sticky. I do it at night and then shower in the morning or keep on for 1 hour minimum then take a shower.

3. Ambrosia Face Oil

Packed with exotic oils and essential oils to help improve the skin’s structure to maintain and smooth out skin. Normally, used for the face but can be used for cellulite affected areas. Helps to maintain results!

4. Bootyluscious Cellulite Buster Cream:

Contains a combination of herbs of thyme, rosemary, juniper, and grapefruit, essentials oils of (grapefruit, juniper, lemon, orange, rosemary and lavender), and cocoa butter. This combination is a tripe concentration that when massaged into the area starts to have immediate results. You will see that your skin lightens and veins are more noticeable which shows that the blood is pumping through the effected areas helping to detoxify excess fluids and drain the lymph.

L.A.M.B.

From No Doubt to the The Sweet Escape tour, Gwen Stefani has always had a penchant for dressing in daring, flattering fashions, while exuding the utmost confidence. With a long history of design, from repurposing thrift store finds to creating her own tour outfits, Gwen brought her unique style to the masses in 2004. L.A.M.B., a label that shares the name of her first solo album, Love.Angel.Music.Baby, began with clothing, and branched out into bags, watches, fragrance and shoes. The eclectic and elegant collection is loved by celebrities like Eva Longoria and Mischa Barton and has appeared on ABC hits Ugly Betty and Grey’s Anatomy. Each city-chic piece, like much of Gwen’s creative work, is greatly influenced by quirky Japanese culture.

The L.A.M.B. handbags are no exception to this creativity. Ranging from leather to canvas, the totes, satchels and clutches make a splash with bold colors, in-your-face geometric prints and oversized hardware.

Think you’re too timid for Gwen’s punchy, confident style? Think again, these bags are just the sort of feminine, funky accessory you’ll need to complete that outfit. You know, the one you’re wearing to this summer’s No Doubt reunion tour.

Vava and Voom

Every girl knows what it feels like to search through her closet for the perfect outfit and be left less than satisfied when she realizes that her wardrobe is far from inspiring. That’s when you know it’s time to breathe new life into your fashion options, to add some flair, some energy, some…..Vava Voom! So we’re pretty sure we know what designer Joy Han was thinking when she created her flirty women’s lines, Vava and Voom.

Always keeping with the concept of “twisted vintage”, Han creates feminine pieces with retro inspiration and a modern touch. Her stylish dresses are versatile and fun with charming details, which makes it easy to see why her lines have garnered a celebrity following, with Jessica Alba, Eva Longoria, and Jennifer Love Hewitt among those who have worn her pieces. And this designer’s penchant for fashion is deep rooted and long-lived, she was even making replicas of couture dresses for her dolls when she was as young as seven years old. Which makes us think this talented “Voom Girl” is not going anywhere anytime soon, and we sure are thankful for that.

Ed Hardy

French designer Christian Audigier has made many a celebrity happy with his vintage tattoo-inspired line, Ed Hardy. Now it’s your chance to don Ed Hardy, a brand created to honor famed tattoo artist Don Ed Hardy, whose inking skills earned him the moniker “the godfather of the modern tattoo.” Rocked by style icon Madonna and the 42nd President, Bill Clinton, in addition to many athletes, musicians, and celebrities, Ed Hardy’s street couture look has become a mainstay on the fashion scene.

Embellished with rhinestones and eye-popping colors, the vibrant designs of Ed Hardy exude the rebellious attitude of rock and roll fashion. Phrases like “love kills slowly” and “death or glory” accompany goth-inspired images of skulls, pirates, snakes, hearts, and daggers. The Ed Hardy collection is a true lifestyle brand that includes shoes, clothing, swimwear, bags, scarves, hats, and belts, so you’re bound to find something you love. After all, it will be “hard” to refuse this offer.

Woman Skinned Puppy To Make Belt

We love us some fur but this is just sick and cruel…

Click here or scroll down to read about it…

MUSKOGEE, Oklahoma (AP) — A 23-year-old woman who got a friend to kill her Jack Russell terrier was charged with skinning the puppy to make a belt out of its hide.

Krystal Lynn Lewis and Austin Michael Mullins, 26, were being held Friday in the Muskogee County jail on $25,000 bail each. They were charged with one felony count of cruelty to animals.

A Muskogee County judge ordered a mental competency hearing for Lewis.

Lewis wanted the puppy, named Poplin, killed because it was a gift from a female ex-lover with whom she doesn’t get along, said Muskogee County sheriff’s deputy George Roberson.

Roberson said Mullins shot the terrier 10 times with a .22-caliber pistol. Lewis skinned the animal at her apartment and nailed the hide to a board.

The Fine Print

  • Expires 10/12/2009

Nothing’s better than a great pair of jeans — especially if, like Mr. Groupon, you wear that pair of jeans every single day for 2+ years. Unfortunately, great jeans aren’t cheap, and tough economic times have forced many of us to resort to more primitive means of hiding our lower body shame. But that all changes with today’s Groupon to The Denim Lounge, where you can choose from the finest denim designers at a $75 discount. With over 20 premium designer brands and an expert team that will actually fit you into the best size and style, The Denim Lounge takes the art of blue jeans to the next level.

This Groupon can be used at The Denim Lounge’s Oak St. and Roscoe Village locations. The Oak St. location even has a “butt cam,” so you can see how the denim shapes your rear on a plasma TV. Whether you’re a jean junkie or a first-timer who’s always wondered what it would feel like to wear a nice pair of jeans, you’ll never get a better deal than today’s Groupon.

Plenty of Chicagoans already know and love The Denim Lounge. Here’s what some of their fans are saying:

  • “They have a HUGE selection of women and men’s jeans (many brands, styles, washes, etc.), and great tops. The service was great, and the employees were very helpful and friendly!” Katie G., Yelp
  • It’s nice to know there is a unique store like this still on the Gold Coast. After being so tired of walking into all of the chain stores, we were thrilled to walk onto Oak St. to see the great boutiques and especially the Denim Lounge. Sarahbryn, Citysearch

For those of you who are new to the world of denim, we offer the following extremely short primer.

Everybody’s Talkin’ About Denim

Look to your left. Look to your right. If you happen to be standing or sitting in between two people, one of those people is wearing or has worn denim. What is at the root of this material’s meteoric rise to become one of our nation’s most beloved pant fabrics? The answer lies in the denim itself: denim.

Most commonly found in the form of blue jeans, denim can also be used to fashion jackets, hats, and skirts (and that is all). “Denim” shirts are actually made of Zenim, a chafe-resistant denim substitute.

People like denim because it’s comfortable, durable, and doesn’t require washing or ironing. If you’ve never tried it, today’s Groupon is the perfect chance to sample some of the world’s finest denim at a price you can afford.
